Istanbul Design Centre
/In order to develop my practical and theoretical understanding of pattern generation and geometry I recently (October 2015) took part in a week long drawing course at Istanbul Design Centre, Turkey organised by the Art of Islamic Pattern, London (www.artofislamicpattern.com)
The principles of Islamic geometric drawing and biomorphic (freehand) design were taught by expert geometers Richard Henry and Adam Williamson. There was a combination of studio based activities, lectures and site visits with al-fresco geometry classes taking place at some of most celebrated examples of Ottoman architecture. To be taught the principles of geometry within such a special and visually rich environment certainly brought the possibilities of the circle and line to life.
Funded by the North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership (NWCDTP) Student Development Fund as part of my practice-based PhD research, MIRIAD, Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University.
